I am searching for any information anyone might have about an ecclesiastical supply house which was known as Whittemore Associates, Inc., of Boston, Massachusetts.  They were founded in 1938 by Carroll E. Whittemore, and this association functioned much as J & R Lamb Studios did earlier, by offering a complete line of merchandise for churches, from stained glass windows and liturgical furnishings to books, paper, pens and other supplies.

The Cathedra, or Bishop's Throne, in Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral, Kansas City, Missouri, was fabricated by Whittemore Associates in 1951.  I am attempting to find out more information about the company, its founder, Carroll E. Whittemore, and about Richard A. Butler, a designer who worked for them.  His is the only name I found in the materials we have in the Cathedral Archives on Whittemore Associates, which appears to be connected with design.  However, someone else may have designed furniture.  I just don't know.

I have contacted what is left of Whittemore Associates -- they operate a mail order service now, and evidently, every member of the Whittemore family who was active in the original business is now deceased.  I was also advised that any employees who worked for the firm during the 1950s are also either deceased or long gone.

So, I am hoping someone who is active in the Association may have some information which will be of assistance to me.

Please feel free to contact me directly at RandalJLoy@gmail.com. if you have any information on Whittemore Associates, Inc., which will be of assistance to me.

Thank you very much.

Sincerely,

Randal J. Loy

Dear Randal,
My father, Joseph Serpentino, now 92, managed the Whittemore Associates stained glass studio in Boston during the 50s and 60s.  In 1976, Serpentino Stained Glass purchased the Whittemore studio.  I have all their records and drawings of stained glass work.  I will contact you at the e-mail address you provided.
Best regards,
Maria Serpentino
