Where do I go for suggestions for Stained Glass kits for someone who is just starting out in Stained Glass? From most of the Subjects that I see listed here, I don't see any newcomers subjects. Or, is this site just for 'professionals'?
Thanks for any info.

Welcome to the Stained Glass Associaiton of America discussion forums.

The Stained Glass Association of America is a professional trade organization and this site is designed primarily for the benefit of its membership. However, having said that, everyone is welcome regardless of their craft experience.

A number of our members have businesses that sell supplies at the retail level in addition to the work they do in their professional studios. While I can't help you myself, hopefully someone who has experience selling kits for beginners will make some good suggestions as to what to look for and where to find it.

Are you taking a class?  I would think the best place would be where ever your class is.  They will know what you need for their class.  If you are not taking a class; I suggest that you take one.  A good class can save you a lot of confusion and frustration.

Sorry, Duke, if I sounded too professional.  I'm not sure what you mean by "kit."  And I think it's fair to ask how you are learning and what you are learning.  If you are starting with lead you will need different tools and materials than if you are starting with copper foil.  If you are learning from a book, the book will tell you what tools and materials you need to do what the book is teaching.  If you are taking a class, the teacher will tell you what tools and materials you need to do what the teacher is teaching.  I can tell you what tools and materials I use and Richard can tell you what tools and materials he uses, and you will probably have two very different lists.  So what are you doing and what are you asking?

Hi Duke,

Do not despair... we all start somewhere...
There are 'beginner stained glass kits' sold at most suppliers. Search on-line for 'stained glass supplys'. A few to look into are Sunshine Glassworks or Whittemore-Durgin. I know these two have excellent customer service for someone just starting out, but there are many others. A beginner instructional book that I will recommend to you is a Wordell publication titled 'Introduction to Stained Glass'. It will probabley be available wherever you purchase your kit.
I do not know your situation, but when I was first introduced to the art of stained glass, I not only lived in the sticks, I was in a wheelchair recovering from an illness. In my case lessons were not an option. Later on, there are many means of continuing and improving your stained glass education. Never stop learning!
Best of luck to you.
